Horizon Client draws over the Microsoft Teams window in the virtual desktop VM, giving users the impression that they are still in the VM, but the media is actually traveling directly between the local endpoint and the remote peer as shown in Figure 1.

Using this mechanism, this process avoids using RTAV altogether. The Media Optimization for Microsoft Teams feature is a boon for organizations using Microsoft Teams for audio and video calls. This document helps you plan for deploying it.

Customizing a host pool's Remote Desktop Protocol RDP properties, such as multi-monitor experience or enabling microphone and audio redirection, lets you deliver an optimal experience for your users based on their needs. Enabling device redirections isn't required when using Teams with media optimization. If you're using Teams without media optimization, set the following RDP properties to enable microphone and camera redirection:. The required media optimization components are part of the Horizon Agent and Horizon Client by default and there's no need to install any additional plug-in to use the optimization feature for Teams.

Deciding on which approach to use depends on whether you use a persistent or non-persistent setup and the associated functionality needs of your organization. For a dedicated persistent setup, both per-machine and per-user installation will work. However, for a non-persistent setup, Teams requires a per-machine installation in order to work efficiently.

See the Non-persistent setup section. With per-machine installation, automatic updates are disabled. This means that to update the Teams app, you must uninstall the current version to update to a newer version. With per-user installation, automatic updates are enabled.

Keep the Teams desktop app in your VDI environment up to date. Teams desktop app versions with release dates that are more than 90 days older than the current version's release date aren't supported. Unsupported Teams desktop app versions show a blocking page to users and request that they update their app. If in the event you need to uninstall Microsoft Teams to deploy an upgrade, you can use the following command:.

Great article. Is the optimization wiring for the ChromeOS client as well? If a client is unable to use Media Optimizatons, what will happen. I have not found any use for this yet, but who knows. This can be done both on computer level or for specific users by regkey. Teams media optimization is really a great benefit for users that make Calls to each other, and if they reside on the same LAN it is terrific!

But when joining a Teams Meet, the effect is not that great. In fact, I did not feel or notice any performance or quality improvements when using Media Optimization in an Teams meeting. In fact, it was the other way around. When connecting to a meeting with Teams Media Optimization enabled I constantly had black small view of remote participants cameras. Quite annoying.

Without Teams media Optimization the small view works with quite good experience. In my test environment, I had two different sizes of machines.

It performs great and give the user a much better experience when using media like you do in teams. I have also done numerous tests in my test environment lastly, I have vacuumed the web and forums for people reporting issues.
